FAQs
Got a burning question?
Perhaps you’re wanting a little more info on a particular program or age group.
-
Of course! Here at ADS we aim to provide opportunities to students of all ages and abilities. Whether you are brand new to Performing Arts or a seasoned professional, we can cater to your learning needs.
-
It is important that students align themselves with a program that best fits their interests as this will most likely result in them not only enjoying classes long term, but feeling comfortable & confident with likeminded peers. If your child is Primary aged & is unsure about which program they like best, we often recommend Acting for Stage & TV as an introductory program as it has a strong focus on fundamental skill building which can then be applied to all programs moving forward.

At ADS we believe in providing a safe, student centred and positive learning environment for ALL students. Our compassionate and professional teachers are well trained in catering to a wide range of learners, including those students who may be shy or experience confidence issues.
At ADS we believe that drama and performing is an amazing way to develop self esteem and social skills, particularly in students who may find it hard to fit in with their peers. By celebrating what makes us unique, ADS aims to help each student realise the amazing potential they possess. -
Whilst we love busting out our favourite moves on the dance floor, our Act Dance Sing (Music Theatre) program incorporates all three disciplines, meaning that whilst students will get to sing and dance every class, the main lesson focus is always rooted in our acting. We believe this approach fosters skill development and helps students fully realise their potential to be an authentic storyteller not only through drama, but also voice and movement.
-
As a student centred school, ADS prides itself on finding the right fit for each student, whether that be studio, program or teacher.
If your child has special learning considerations, the more we know the better! Given the difference between studios regarding set up, acoustics, noise management, class sizes etc, there are often classes/locations that we can recommend based on you/your child’s individual needs. Most importantly, the more we know about how best your child learns & has fun, the more accurate we can be in finding a great fit! -
At ADS we focus on creating safe and inclusive learning environments where students work together to develop collaborative skills they can transfer in the real world.
As such, we believe that too much focus on individual or solo work can breed a culture of internal competition, which is not inline with our school ethos. Never fear – our amazing Teachers work closely with our students to ensure EVERY child is reaching their own personal learning goals and given their moment to shine! -
Acting for Stage and TV sees students learning both theatrical and screen basics. We recommend this program for people new to acting, as well as those who are interested in live performance opportunities as well as acting on camera.
Acting for Screen and Film Production solely focuses on acting for the camera and gives students behind the scenes insight into how a movie is made.

From accomplished stage and screen actors, to sought after directors and script writers, ADS is lucky to have some of Melbourne’s finest teachers as part of our school community. Drawing on a wealth of knowledge and professional experience, our teachers range in tertiary training, qualifications & specialities. To find out more about a particular teacher, visit “Meet our passionate people” on our homepage.

We think so! Here at ADS we believe that all actors need a strong skill base before taking on the professional stage or silver screen. Our programs allows students to develop and explore in a safe environment as they build performance and social skills they can use to take on the world!
For students wanting to take their acting more seriously — we have an affiliated talent agency, Action Acting Agency (AAA) who advertises auditions throughout the year. You can learn more about AAA by visiting their website at www.actionactingagency.com.au

YES! We know that trying something new can be daunting (not to mention an expensive commitment for Mum and Dad). Our Free Trial Lessons allows students to ‘try before you buy’ so you can be assured we are the right fit before making a financial commitment.
-
Unlike other schools, ADS does not operate on a hierarchy system meaning that all students are treated equally and provided with the same learning and performance opportunities. We aim to build our students up by providing positive reinforcement and constructive feedback. ADS has a strict No Bullying Policy and any students who do not reflect our value system will be asked to leave.
Offering top quality theatrical & screen experiences where every student gets a go!
